(Smith-Dorrien; exemplified to Robert Algernon Smith, Esq., of Haresfoot, co. Herts, upon his assuming by royal licence, 1845, the additional surname of Dorrien). Quarterly, 1st and 4th, ar. issuant from a mount in base three trefoils vert, in chief a ring gu. gem ar., for Dorrien; 2nd and 3rd, or, a chev. cottised sa. betw. three demi griffins couped of the last, the two in chief respecting each other, for Smith. Crests—1st, Dorrien: Issuant from the battlements of a tower ar. a dexter arm erect ppr. holding three trefoils, as in the arms; 2nd, Smith: An elephant’s head erased or, charged on the neck with three fleurs-de-lis sa. Motto—Preignes haleine tire fort.
