The gauntlet is an armoured glove, part of a knights attire and when used as a device on the shield it should be stated which hand it is for. A Glossary of Terms used in British Heraldry, J.H. Parker, Oxford, 1894, Entry:Gauntlet They are quite a complex device visually, with distinct panels and rivets visible.
