(Balgarvie and Burleigh, co. Fife: heiress m. Sir Jas. Balfour, of Mountquhanny, in the 15th century). Ar. on a chev. sa. an otter’s head erased of the field, in base a rose gu.

(Mountquhanny, co. Fife, Lord Balfour of Burleigh, 1607). Originally ar. on a chev. sa. an otter’s head erased of the field, in base a saltire couped of the second, afterwards the undifferenced coat of Balfour of that Ilk. Crest—A mermaid ppr. holding in her dexter hand an otter’s head erased sa. in her sinister a swan’s head also erased ppr. Supporters— An otter and a swan both ppr. Motto—Omne solum forti patria. See Bruce Lord Balfour of Burleigh.
