Blazon description

(Earl of Galway, extinct 1720: Henry de Massue, de Ruvigny, a native of France, who served under William III., and gained distinction at the battle of Aughrim, was elevated to the Peerage of Ireland, as Viscount Galway, 1692, and was raised to the earldom, 1697, d.s.p.). Quarterly, 1st and 4th, ar. a fess gu. in chief three martlets sa. on a canton or, a battle axe of the third; 2nd, gu. a chaplet of laurel or, a chief chequy ar. and az.; 3rd, ar. three martlets gu. Crest—A demi savage crowned and girt with laurel, holding with both hands a club all ppr. Supporters—Two savages, crowned and girt with laurel, each holding in the exterior hand a club, and on the same arm a shield with the arms of Ireland all ppr. Motto—Duce Deo.
