(Baron Northwick, descended from John Rushout, a native of France, who settled in England, temp. Charles I.; his son, James Rushout, was created a bart. 1661, the fifth bart., Sir John Rushout, was created Lord Northwick 1797, and m. Rebecca, dau. of Humphrey Bowles, Esq.; his lordship’s second son, Hon. and Rev. George Rushout, assumed the additional surname of Bowles, by royal licence, 1817, and d. 1842, leaving an elder son, George Rushoot-Bowles, who s. 1859, as third Lord Northwick. See Bowles, Lord Northwick). Sa. two lions pass. guard. within a border engr. or. Crest—A lion pass. guard. or. Supporters—Two angels ppr. winged and crined or, habited ar. semee of fleurs-de-lis and mullets gold, round the waists sashes az. holding in the exterior hands palm branches vert. Motto—Par temis suppar.

Crests— 1st: A lion pass. guard. or; 2nd: Within a crescent az. a tiger’s face ppr. crowned with an Eastern crown. Supporters—Two angels, their vests semée of fleurs-de-lis, the hand next the shield supporting a pennon, the dexter charged with a sun in splendour, the sinister semée of estoiles, and charged with a crescent, the exterior hands extended and supporting a Persian pheasant.
